TUBAL PROBLEMS

TUBAL PROBLEMS

Tubal Factor Infertility Treatment and Care at Swetcha Fertility Center:

Tubal factor infertility occurs when the fallopian tubes prevent the sperm from reaching the egg or the fertilized embryo from reaching the uterus for pregnancy. This condition can result from various causes including previous surgeries, endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), and more.

Causes and Identification of Tubal Blockage:

  • Common Causes: Previous surgeries, endometriosis, PID, STDs, ectopic pregnancies, and other conditions.
  • Types of Tubal Blockage: Proximity Tubal Blockage, Distal Tubal Blockage, Fallopian Tube Damage, and more.
  • Identification: Diagnosis is done through procedures like hysterosalpingogram (HSG) and laparoscopy.
  • Symptoms and Diagnosis:

Symptoms of tubal factor infertility include difficulty becoming pregnant, fallopian tube damage, and pelvic pain. Diagnosis is confirmed through procedures like HSG, where dye is used to check for tube blockages, and laparoscopy, a minimally invasive surgical procedure to view the fallopian tubes.

    Treatment Options:

There are both surgical and nonsurgical treatment options for tubal factor infertility. Surgical methods include:

  • Tubal Cannulation: A catheter with a balloon is used to unblock fallopian tubes.
  • Fimbrioplasty: Repairing the fimbriae (fingerlike ends of the tubes) for minimal distal blockage.
  • Salpingectomy: Surgical removal of damaged or diseased fallopian tube.
  • Salpingostomy: Creating an opening into the fallopian tube, usually to remove an ectopic pregnancy.
  • Considering Treatment Options:

Before choosing between IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) and tubal surgery, it's important to weigh the advantages and disadvantages of each approach. IVF has good percycle success rates but can be costly and requires hormone injections and monitoring. Tubal surgery has the potential to increase natural conception chances but carries risks of scar tissue, adhesions, and recurrent blockages.

    Factors to Consider:

  • Patient's age, ovarian reserve, and fertility history.
  • Number of desired children.
  • Site and extent of tubal damage.
  • Presence of other infertility factors.
  • Surgeon's experience.
  • Patient's preferences, beliefs, and financial situation.
  • Laparoscopy and Dye Test:

This surgical procedure helps diagnose the cause of infertility and checks for blocked fallopian tubes. It involves making small incisions in the abdomen, inserting instruments and a telescope, and injecting dye to visualize the tubes. Recovery usually takes a day or two.

After the procedure, the results will be discussed with the patient, and further treatment or followup options will be considered.

It's essential to remember that medical treatments should be personalized to individual circumstances and discussed with qualified healthcare professionals. The information provided here is for general understanding and educational purposes only.
